Sailing with Chris – An excellent day on SF Bay

So today I finally convinced my friend Chris to go for a quick romp around the bay aboard Narnia. This was only his second time aboard a sailboat. He proved to be a quick study on the basics of sail handling and was soon crewing like a pro.

The winds were 25 gusting to 30 knots. The waves were choppy. Narnia was in her element! The skies started off overcast and cleared as the day progressed.

We motored out, raised the mainsail and staysail and began tacking our way past the Berkeley pier. After making it to the end of the pier we turned South and sailed past Yerba Buena Island and Alcatraz Island and made our way to the San Francisco City Front.

We jibed just before the Bay Bridge and began our downwind trek back home. All in all an excellent day on San Francisco Bay. Chris, you are welcome back anytime!

  1. My husband, Ted and I had Narnia commissioned and Lake City Texas. We were the first owners and had her bill. I’m glad to see she still sailing and that is loved. I hated to get rid of her, but my husband died. She gave us seven years of joy while we lived on it and 13 total.

    1. Hello Pamela!! It’s great to hear from you and glad you found this site (as you can see we no longer update it very often). The love and care you and your husband put into building and maintaining Narnia were very apparent, and conveyed by Dave Jackson when my Wife and I purchased her in Texas in 2018. We relocated her to California and she is currently calling San Francisco Bay home. She is very much loved, enjoyed and we sail her often. She is a fine boat indeed! Dan & Sue
