2nd Day of Christmas in Budapest

Today, Sunday, is the 2nd day of Christmas in Budapest. In most of Europe this would be St. Stephan’s Day, but in Hungary they celebrate St Stephan’s Day on August 20th, so today is officially the 2nd day of Christmas. We celebrated with a walk along the Danube to the shoes memorial, a visit to the Parament building, Liberty Square to see the President Reagan and President Bush statues, and finally visiting 2 more wonderful Christmas Markets.

The Christmas Markets in Budapest were some of the best we have visited so far. All of the normal Christmas Market food and fare was on display, families were out enjoying the festive celebrations, and Dan had what can only be described as the most awesome cup of hot chocolate, Ever! Rich, Creamy, not too sweet, with the consistency of hot fudge!. We also shared a large sausage for lunch and had a traditional Kürtöskalács, or chimney cake, before continuing on our way. 2nd Christmas indeed!
