After leaving Regensburg Germany last night, we traveled down the Danube to the City of Passau where the Danube, Ilz, and Inn rivers meet. It was a VERY chilly morning as we disembarked for our walking tour around the cobblestoned old town with it’s historic baroque architecture. We walked through the narrow alleyways from river to river noting the high water marks prominently recorded on the sides of the buildings. Once again the streets were empty. We passed the site of the Christmas Market, now closed due to COVID concerns. We ended our tour at the gorgeous onion domed St. Stephen’s Cathedral, home of the largest church pipe organ outside of the US.
Passau lies just across the river from Austria where we will be heading when move down the Danube tonight. Tomorrow we should be cruising the river during the daylight as we are no longer stopping in Linz, Austria as they are locked down. We love the old European cities and cruise down the river is an excellent way to travel between them!
