Our day started out with breakfast at our traditional Anchorage breakfast spot: Snow City Café. Their portions are huge and the food is good (Biscuits and Gravy for Sue, Cluck Norris for Dan) . Thankfully calories don’t count on vacation :-). After breakfast we had our traditional stroll along the waterfront to Resolution Park and then proceeded back to the Hotel. The weather this morning was an unseasonably warm 28 degrees and sunny.
Later that afternoon we made a quick detour to visit Star the Reindeer as we “Ubered” our way to the Lakefront Lodge to complete our check-in formalities as Iditarod Dog Handlers/Volunteers. This consisted of a Rapid Antigen COVID test at the “motorhome in the parking lot”, signing the various waivers, and receiving our credentials/badges. The whole process had a very laid back/informal feel to it.
That evening we discovered a new favorite local spot for lunch/dinner/adult beverages, F Street Station! Sue had a salad with fresh halibut and Dan had the Texas size (aka half size compared to Alaska) halibut fish and chips. Delicious food, good service and very reasonable prices. We talked with several locals while there, everyone was so friendly…. We will have revisit here one more time during our stay (heard the French Onion soup is amazing). A light snow began to fall as we were getting ready to leave.
A great first day in Alaska.
