Snow Sculptures and the 50th Iditarod Gala Event

We decided to skip the organized bus tour to the Alyeska Ski Resort and take the opportunity walk down the icy hill toward the Alaska Railroad Station to view the Alaska State Snow Sculpture Championship Exhibit. While today was icy and well below freezing, the recent wave of unseasonably warm weather had melted away some of the finer details. Nonetheless the talent that went into their creation was certainly evident and they were a wonder to behold. We walked across the street to visit the Ulu Knife factory.

Later that evening we attended the Gala Event for the 50th Anniversary of the Iditarod. This years format was a bit different due to the Covid protocols being observed for the Iditarod so the Mushers were not in attendance, they pulled bib numbers prior to the event, and there was no “meet and greet” event with the teams. Still, most of the other aspects of the Gala were maintained and it was a very nice tribute to the 50th running of the Iditarod and an enjoyable evening. Tomorrow we are up early to go through our “Iditarod Dog Handler” refresher training will pick up our renewed credentials.
