Today we find ourselves in the charming little town of Port Chalmers, the gateway to Dunedin New Zealand. Dunedin is the second most populous city in on the Soth Island and is also one of the most Scottish, having been modeled after the city of Edinburgh, Scotland.
The Crown Princess was also in port on this day so the early morning activities on the dock were a bit hectic. We decided to spend the morning enjoying the quiet ship. The crowds finally abated around brunch time, and we caught a completely empty shuttle bus to make the 20 min drive to Dunedin and were deposited just outside the historic city center, also known as the octagon. As you can see from the pictures, the city has a distinct Scottish feel.
After a nice walk around central Dunedin, returned to Port Chalmers to continue our day. The shuttle dropped us off by the maritime museum located adjacent to the port and after exploring the exabits, we continued our walk downtown. Here we split up with Sue opting to visit the local shops and Dan setting out on a hike past the old city cemetery and to the top of the hill.
