We are in Athens, one of the world’s oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years,[9] and its earliest human presence beginning somewhere between the 11th and 7th millennia BC. The city just oozes history and culture. With such amazing sites as the Parthenon, the Acropolis, the Temple of Hephaestus, and the Temple of Zues just to name a few, and we are too sick to enjoy any of it! The shipboard “respiratory crud” has us down for the count. We’re living on cough syrup, Tylenol, and Z-Paks. Spending the days hibernating in our cabin with occasional trips to the buffet. Luckily(?), we spent several days in Athens 2 years ago right after Sue’s retirement so have already seen most of the main tourist highlights of the area, still we are sad to miss exploring this remarkable city again.

For those of you that noticed, March 31st was originally scheduled to be Volos, Greece, but unfortunately they notified us as we left Gibraltar that recent flooding and the associated runoff had reduced the depth of the harbor below the safety limits of our ship. On the upside, since we were overnight in Athens, several of the crew were able to arrange for family to visit them on board. We left Athens just after 5PM.
