Today is transition day as we dock at the Tyrrhenian sea port city of Civitavecchia, Italy. The Port of Civitavecchia is one of the major cruise ports of Europe and is huge with over 3.3 million passengers passing through each year! There are 5 cruise ships in port today, each of them offloading and onboarding passengers. Our 116 day world cruise is broken up into 5 segments and today ends segment 3 and begins segment 4. There will be a number of our fellow passengers ending their cruise and leaving the ship today with an approximate equal number of passengers joining to start their cruise. As we are continuing on after today, we decide to stay onboard this morning and wait for the chaos on shore to die down a bit. Sue decided to enjoy the quiet ship as she is still recovering from the weekslong respiratory illness.
After a late leisurely breakfast, Dan boarded the shuttlebus that would make the 15 minute journey to the port entrance to begin his wander around the city. Walking by the waterfront, past ancient ruins, galleries, through the old city gates and into the downtown area. He spent some time browsing markets, visiting the Kiss of Memory statue, and most importantly the pharmacy for cough syrup and z-pak before making the long walk back to the ship, eschewing the long shuttlebus line.

Enjoyed the pics, thank you for sharing. That’s a classic pic of the fishing boat with the birds circling! And I love all of the off-the-beaten-path pics, too (including the fishing nets). That’s the biggest piece of mortadella (or was it an olive loaf?) I have ever seen.
