This morning we anchored in the deep bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer, France, the gateway to the resort areas of Nice, France and Monte Carlo, Monaco. We have visited both of these areas before, but have never been to Villeffranche, so we decided to take this opportunity to visit this small port town.

Since we were anchored in the bay, the only way to get to shore was via the ship’s tender boats. It takes awhile to offload 2,000 plus passengers via small boats, with those going on ship provided tours given preference, so it was early afternoon by the time Dan made it to shore (Sue stayed aboard the quiet ship still recovering from her respiratory illness).
The tenders dropped passengers off at the small Port de la Santé marina where the small information terminal provided a local map that contained 6 sites to visit around the city, and Dan visited them all on a 4-mile walk around town: the Chaple St, Pierre, the Rue Obscure, the Place du Conseil, the Church of Saint-Michel, St. Elmo’s Citadel, and the Port Royal De La Darse.
