Day 88: Barcelona. Spain

This morning we docked at Port Vell in Barcelona, Spain. It is the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Catalonia, as well as the second-most populous municipality of Spain. Barcelona is one of the largest metropolises on the Mediterranean Sea, located on the coast between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs, bounded to the west by the Serra de Collserola mountain range.

We boarded the port shuttle that deposited us just outside the Columbus Monument at the lower end of La Rambla, Here we boarded the Hop On Hop Off bus orange route to get a lay of the city. The two-hour route made it way though this amazingly clean, beautiful, and well-organized city. Please click this link to for a list of sites of the tour..Both of us were impressed with the way a city of this size could efficiently move such a large population with it’s series of surface streets, public busses, and trams.

The Hop On Hop Off ticket we purchased also included a Harbor Tour. Dan took the tour, Sue declined. Sue made the right decision :-). The tour basically covered the same route the cruise ship made on it’s entry into the harbor, only with the high winds, it was a rough ride.

You would need more than a week to scratch the surface of this amazing city of Spain. We will be back.
