After 8 days at sea, we arrive just before sun up in Port Everglades, Florida. This marks the end of the 4th segment of our world cruise and the beginning of the 5th. We have 1500 passengers disembarking and ending their cruise here (including our travel friends Dave and Gerne) with 1700 embarking to begin their cruise. There are 500 of us continuing on. As we are reentering the US, everyone, passengers and crew must physically leave the ship and clear US customs and immigration in-person. Passengers are not allowed back on the ship until all have exited and cleared. As we are continuing on, we are one of the last groups off the ship. We clear formalities and are back on the ship withing about 45 minutes. Not bad.
Once back on board we enjoy a leisurely lunch while watching the Blue Angles practice their maneuvers and observe the sherif boat issuing citations to boats breaking the 5mph speed limit in the channel. They had plenty of targets to choose from. New passengers begin boarding around 1PM. The ship is required to conduct in-person passenger safety drills every 6 months, and lucky us, today was the day. We donned protective mask to protect us from the newly boarded batch of germs and made our way to our muster station in the gym.
Formalities over, we soon began Segment 5 of the world cruise. Next stop, Columbia.
