Weekend on Narnia
Taking advantage of this wonderful February Spring-like Sunday to enjoy some time on Narnia. Tide is a little too low to head out sailing.

As folks know, we generally tend to plan our longer duration bucket list travels well in advance, and this trip is no exception. We have been in the planning stages for well over a year and yesterday we reached another milestone. We have finalized our high level itinerary, ticketed all of our flights, and reserved […]
Another beautiful warm October day for a paddle around the delta. Was visited by 6 river otters. Camera set on 45 second time-lapse. Enjoy. Click below to watch video:
Since it’s been awhile since I’ve done a Kayak post, I decided to take advantage of the gorgeous Fall day and make a short time lapse video of today’s 3 mile paddle around the delta (while Sue was working). The camera shy wildlife was out in abundance. Kayak mounted camera was set to take a […]
Today we have the 4th installment that covers exploring the island of Nuku Hiva, Marquises, and S/V Dreamers onward passage to the Fakarava Atoll with only David and Chris onboard (Dan flew from Nuku Hiva to Papeete, Tahiti to reunite with Sue) You can find the 1st Video Here, the 2nd Video Here, the 3rd Video Here, or […]
Chris Huang took video during our voyage from Panama to French Polynesia in March/April of 2022. Today we have the 3rd installment that covers the last couple weeks of the ocean crossing and the arrival at the island of Nuku Hiva, Marquises. You can find the 1st Video Here, the 2nd Video Here, or check […]
The temperature outside our based land home was hovering above 112 degrees over the last weekend, a bit too hot for outdoor activities, so we passed the time surfing our favorite travel sites. Oh, the danger of Labor Day Travel Sales! As some may remember, we had to cancel the Machu Picchu portion of our […]
Today we set off to explore just a small portion of old town Lisbon. Our first stop was the Belem Tower (or Tower of St. Vincent). This historic 16th century fortification was the official ceremonial gateway of Lisbon. The surrounding park and waterfront was alive with mobile port wine vendors in their trucks. A replica […]
August 15, 2022; Lisbon, Portugal: With an 8 hour time difference from home, we were a bit jet lagged on our first full day in Portugal. We had booked an all day small group tour to Sintra and the surrounding areas so we pulled ourselves out of bed @5:30 AM, had breakfast, and set off […]
My long time friends Frank and Paul both retired this year from the company where we had spent most of our adult lives. We became friends back in the 90’s when we worked together “Transforming the World of Healthcare” with such “bleeding edge technological innovations” as Desktop Computers, Networks, Email, Chat, Virtual Meetings, and the […]
It’s been a hectic couple of months. We hauled Narnia for what was expected to be a 1 week stay in the boatyard, but of course it turned into 15 days. We didn’t really have any unexpected issues, it is just that everything takes more effort, time and $ then originally planned. As with any […]
Narnia’s refit began way back in October 2021(See here and here) when, after attending the Boat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, we decided to replace most of the circa 2005 electronics/navigation gear. We made good progress in November (see here) removing/replacing the Nav Pods, Chart Plotter, Wind and Depth Gauges while bridging the old RobNet, Simnet […]
About a month before Dan left for his South Pacific Ocean crossing, we pulled the Avon inflatable runabout off the dock behind our home and put it in the garage The fiberglass hull portion of the boat had developed a fairly steady leak that required us to run the bilge pump frequently every time we […]
From March 15 – April 20, 2022, Dan crewed aboard S/V Dreamer. Along with the boat’s owner, David and his son Chris, Dan sailed 4000 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean from Panama City, Panama to Nuku Hiva, French Polynesia. The posts and position information for this trip are located here.
Nice 8 mile Paddle Around the Delta. I flipped the Kayak and went for an unintentional swim at mile 6 while taking the new “shortcut” from Hill Slough to Duck Slough. It was a cold/wet paddle home. Today’s tide was VERY strong and fast moving. This made for “rapids” on the delta and I got […]
As mentioned before, there was a new tidal wetland created just across from our land home that is accessible from our dock at higher tides. Today the tide and timing were perfect for a quick paddle out to visit the Pelicans, Egrets, Ducks, Cormorant and other birds the have moved into this area. I set […]
An amazing January day for a paddle around the delta. The fog burned off, the tide was high and the wind was light. I set my camera to take a photo every 60 seconds and put the pictures to music. This is about a 2 mile loop from our land home. Retired life is good.
For our family and friends that have been following the West Coast Tsunami impacts and reaching out by phone, email, text and message, please know that Narnia and crew are doing fine. Dan was staying overnight on Narnia and was on board when the Tsunami news hit. The marina staff was proactive in checking on […]
As of December 8, 2021 you can call me Captain! It began back in August of 2021 when I came across an ad in our marina’s monthly newsletter. A local maritime training school was offering “in-person” US Coast Guard Captains License training (OUPV/6 Pack) during the pandemic. I have always toyed with the idea of […]
One of the (many) benefits of being retired, living on the waterfront, and having a wonderfully supportive, understanding, loving & working wife is that I can go paddling anytime the mood strikes me. Today was such a day. I had a wonderful 4 mile paddle around the delta with my camera mounted on the kayak. […]
