Exploring Isabela Island, Galapagos

Tuesday 9/21/202 Isabela Island, Galapagos: This morning we boarded the zodiacs early this morning and set out in search of the wildlife that inhabit the shallow mangroves of Elizabeth Bay on the island of Isabela. We were not disappointed. As our zodiac pilot expertly navigated the narrow rock filled channels and tricky currents of the mangroves, we were treated to numerous sightings of Galapagos sea turtles, flightless cormorant nesting sites, rays, crabs, mullet fish, puffer fish, Galapagos octopus and marine iguanas. For lunch we enjoyed a local Ecuadorian scorpion fish (Sue’s new favorite fish) and took a short nap before the afternoon excursions…

In the afternoon we moved around to the other side of Isabela Island to spend a busy afternoon at Tagus Cove. Dan and Sue embarked on separate excursions. Dan chose a deep-water snorkel, a long steep walk for a view Darwin Lake, and a short tender ride along the coast in the zodiac. Sue chose to take a long tender ride along the coast followed by a shorter walk to Darwin Lake The water was cold and silty for the snorkel so Dan didn’t get many pictures. Sue on the other hand was able to capture photos of many of the animals that are famous in the Galapagos. The day concluded with another amazing dinner with our new friends.
