We were not surprised tonight when we received an email from Viking informing us of changes to our 12/19/21 Danube Waltz 7 day river cruise from Passau, Germany to Budapest, Hungary on board the Viking Kadlin This cruise is part of our 2 week, 2021 Christmas Market Adventure, You can read about the original trip here.
We still fly out this Wednesday (SFO – FRA- PRG ) with 4 days in Prague prior to the river cruise and are now on the Viking Jarl with same departure date, same cabin class (but different stateroom #) and we will now be leaving from Regensburg, Germany with a stop in Passau, Germany. We were originally to start the river cruise is Passau.
The Linz, Austria stop has been cancelled, but we do get 1 extra day in Vienna. The Bratislava, Slovakia stop was also cancelled (no surprise as they are locked down). We are disappointed that Bratislava was cancelled as we were hoping to visit with Roger, a retired coworker who is now living in Slovakia.
We are thankful that we are able to travel during this pandemic. We are hitting retirement age, and we are checking off our bucket list trips. Our first Viking river cruise was supposed to have been in March 2020 leaving from Wuhan China (the reported epicenter of the virus outbreak).
We will try to post/blog during this trip starting from SFO airport (if anyone is interested). And yes, Sue’s biggest “stress” right now is obtaining C-19 testing results 72 hrs. before our departure. We have tested at 3 different sites with hopes one of them come back in time to board the flight to Europe.
