Time for Some Capri 18 Maintenance

Our Capri 18 sailboat lives full-time at the dock behind our house. The last time she was out of the water for bottom paint was back in 2018. Dan did dive on the boat and scrub the bottom last year. One of the reasons for this long lapse in out of water service was because her trailer was in need of a rebuild (new lights, tires, wheels, wiring, bunks). The rebuild started in 2023 and was completed late last year . Sue woke me up early this morning and indicated that the weather and tide conditions were good to pull the Capri out.

We dropped and removed her mast at the home dock yesterday in preparation for this day. Dan motored the Capri the short distance to the local boat ramp where Sue had driven the truck and trailer. Even though it has been 8 years since we last did this, the muscle memory of how to retrieve the boat returned quickly and she was soon secured and ready for the road. I will say that the bottom paint was in remarkably good shape given the time it has been in the water.

We laid tarps down and back her into the driveway. A quick pressure wash removed much of the growth, but there is still many days of work and cleaning ahead.

  1. Good going! The energy the two of you possess is a blessing. I hope you will post pictures of the newly refreshed Capri.

    1. Thanks for the complement! We will try to post some “during” and “after” photos as we bring her back to “sailing shape”. It’s been awhile since the Capri has sailed.
