Monday 9/20/2021 afternoon Rabida Island, Galapagos: This afternoon we journeyed via zodiac to the red sandy beaches of Rabida. The island gets is red color from the ”rusting” iron rich basaltic lava that comprises a majority of its soil. After another “wet landing”, we proceeded to take a walk around the coastline and interior trails in the company one of the naturalists who pointed out the various distinct animals and plants of the island.
Later we re-boarded the zodiac for what should have been a short ride to the far side of the island for a kayak but we were delayed when our boat struck an unknown underwater obstruction at full speed damaging the propeller. We were quickly transferred to another zodiac had a wonder paddle along the coast.
We enjoyed wine and cheese before dinner and a delicious after dinner liquor that one of our new friends was kind enough to share with the table.
