Meeting Friends and Starting Tour

Our friends arrived in Lima yesterday to join us in our adventure to Machu Picchu & Galapagos. We first met Deb, Charles, Becky & Kim in Cambodia in 2023 on a 40-day cruise from Thailand to Greece. It should be fun traveling together again.

Today we met our Overseas Adventure Travel tour guide, David, for the Peru portion of the trip and met the other people in our group. We had an hour-long introductory meeting in a conference room, complete with power point slides (queue work flashbacks). Afterword we headed out on a short walking tour that included a stop for lunch at El Divan restaurant. Lunch consisted of local Peruvian dishes and a purple corn drink called chicha morada. It was good but pretty sweet. Today was Charles’ birthday, so the group celebrated with a song while he had ice cream. After lunch we continued our walk that concluded at Kennedy Park, the unofficial main square of Lima. The park honors President John F. Kennedy who strongly supported Peru during its mid century struggles.

After that, we had free time and all went our separate ways to continue exploring. We checked out the park, ate some churros at Manalo, recommended by David, and then headed for the Pacific Ocean coastline. We walked about a mile from the park to the cityโ€™s coastal walkway known as the Malecon. We watched the paragliders, walked through Love Park, stopped at the La Marina Lighthouse to watch the beautiful sunset. We met a guy walking his huskies and of course we had to say hello!

After sunset, we headed back to the hotel to grab dinner (we split an excellent hamburger and salad) and turned in for the night. Another excellent day in Peru.
